Hw: Self-Portrait in attention

During my self-portrait I felt like I was focused. Due to that I was able to replicate most of the features in my picture onto the paper in my drawing. To do something like this you need to be able to see things and in order to see you need focus. In class when looking at the picture of the frog’s eye we learned that it took time and focus to get a picture that looked that great. It almost never happens that someone gets something “perfect” on the first try. Even then there is probably something even more they could have to make whatever they were working on better. People often set high expectations for themselves but once it comes to doing something they become lazy. Being focused blocks out your laziness and therefor provides you with a better outcome. For me when I was drawing myself I was made an effort to stay as focused as I could because we had a limited time. When writing we should try to be as focused as we can because that’s when we start generating new ideas and it leads to even more writing. I also learned this when writing essays. I was able to come up with new ideas as well as add my own personal experiences. Paying attention is also important because it leads to learning. The more you pay attention the more likely you are to remember what you learned and apply it in future works. This is what I learned from the exercise and I feel like I can continue to use these skills in my future essays and in class lets writes.

  1. From the photo of your notes it sounds like having more time and going back to look more at your face would have enabled you to revise your drawing and improve it. So this drawing is something like a first draft – it sketches the outlines and contours. What besides adding details would have to happen in subsequent drafts to improve it?
